Shanghai Disneyland - Toy Story Hotel Review

The Toy Story Hotel in Shanghai is one of two resort hotels very close to the park. When looking online I absolutely loved the design and the theme of this hotel and it was in our budget so knew it was the place we had to book for our 3 night stay.

BOOKING THE HOTEL

I booked all of our Asia trip myself separately and used the Shanghai Disneyland website to price up the trip.
We booked for 3 nights stay (6th-9th February 2017) in a garden view room with breakfast each day and 4 days park tickets which came to ¥6191 (£695, $898US)

ARRIVING AT THE RESORT

We jumped in a taxi from the airport which took around 30 minutes which cost around ¥70 and on arrival the hotel staff were outside to greet us and take our luggage (poor guys we had so much and it was so heavy).
The outside of the hotel looks like a cardboard toy box which I absolutely loved (shown above) but other than the front there wasn't much else in the way of theming on the outside.

HOTEL THEME

The theme inside the room was good from the lights to the bedside table it was all just perfect for a basic hotel. The amenity kit in the bathroom has to be my favourite it was a little tin with Buzz and Woody printed on it which of course I kept. We had two double beds in our room which was great as we had a pretty small one in Hong Kong for the week before so we welcomed the extra space! Our room looked onto Tron and we could see the top of the castle which was great as the first day we were really tired so we bought some drinks and snacks and watched the fireworks from our room as the TV has the soundtrack so you can listen along as your watching them - how awesome?!

As we were at the resort over Chinese New Year the hotel had some cute decorations up and some traditional Chinese knots were given to us when we checked in. I loved how they tied in the culture at the hotel during the festivities.

BREAKFAST

We booked breakfast with our hotel and park ticket package which was ok but not the best if I'm being honest. There was lots of Chinese options like spring rolls etc but we found it a little too early to be eating things like that so we stuck to the pastries and cooked breakfast. The pastry option was HUGE it would have been more than enough for the two of us. It included porridge, a croissant, pain au chocolat, some sort of almond pasty and two slices of toast!! The cooked breakfast was quite nice it included a Mickey shaped hash brown, sausages, scrambled egg, tomatoes and toast. These came with a choice of tea or instant coffee - not great if your a coffee lover but there is a Starbucks at Disneytown which is open from 7am.

SHUTTLE BUSSES

The shuttle busses were very frequent although at certain times they were pretty packed and they don't hesitate to squeeze as many people on as they can. We waited inside for the bus as the lobby was nice and cosy and the bus stop waiting area was open air so it was freezing standing waiting on them to come.

LOTSO SHOP

The onsite shop 'Lotso Shop' was very handy on our last day as we didn't do much shopping in the park as we were trying to cram as much as possible so I managed to pick up a few bits a pieces after the fireworks as the shop was still open. There was lots of choice which was surprising as its not the biggest hotel shop I have been in but it had just the right amount of merch. As we went over Chinese New Year they had some of the new year merchandise and also a lot of the Grand Opening merchandise which I went a little crazy on.

Here are my Pro's and Con's about this resort -

PRO'S
  • Close to the park - frequent shuttle bus to and from.
  • Affordable option for the Shanghai Disney resort.
  • Friendly staff and great reception.
  • Character meet and greet at the hotel.
  • Good theme and overall appearance inside.
  • Firework soundtrack on TV so you can watch from your room depending on where your room is.
CONS
  • Long walk to the room due to figure of 8 hotel shape.
  • Breakfast options not great.
  • Shuttle busses can get very crammed.
  • Merchandise is too cute you cant resist it haha!!!

Overall I would recommend the Toy Story Hotel if your looking for something themed but affordable at Shanghai Disney Resort.
